High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom
High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is supported in classrooms through differentiated learning experiences that allow students to work at an appropriate level of challenge. Teachers provide opportunities for students to deepen understanding, extend thinking, and apply learning in a range of ways to support individual strengths and interests.
Across our school
High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) opportunities at Calare support students across multiple domains. Creative potential is nurtured through opportunities such as the Young Archie’s art competition. Intellectual potential is extended through programs including the Enrichment Class. Social and emotional development is fostered through leadership opportunities such as the Helping Hands program, while physical potential is supported through participation in PSSA competitions in both team and individual sports.
Across NSW
Calare offers High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) opportunities at a statewide level, providing eligible students with access to extended learning pathways. This includes participation in the Newcastle Mathematics permanent testing program to support advanced mathematical learning.
